Desaru – Land of Casuarinas

At the Desaru Impian Resort, there is a theme park which offers carnival rides, water slides, free form pools and kiddie go-karts. Children can indulge in special programes at the kitty’s club, meet and feed animals, cuddle furry creatures and catch animal shows at Wildlife Encounters, or go for horse riding on the beach.

The beach is a good place for windsurfing, sailing, snorkeling and canoeing.
Golf  has lately been the centre of attraction for visitors, if you are coming from Singapore it is easily accessible by ferry for just one and a half hour. You can also take your vehicle along with the ferry at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal in Singapore.

pulau-payarThis beautiful marine park situated in the northern part of the Straits of Malacca off the State of Kedah, is about 20 nautical miles south of Langkawi Island and 32 nautical miles north of Penang. This marine park covers an area of two nautical miles consists of  four little islands – Pulau Payar (the largest), Pulau Kaca, Pulau Lembu and Pulau Segantang.

The Coral Garden

With strict enforcement from the Fisheries Department, the marine park kept its marine life and vegetation well protected. A fascinating diversity of marine corals and some endangered fish species can still be found in the area.

This marine park is an ideal place for swimming , snorkeling and diving, visitors will love to enjoy the  bright, multi-color soft corals seen through the crystal clear water around the” Coral Garden”.There is no accommodation for visitors to stay on the island overnight. However, for the more adventurous tourist who would like to experience a night out on the sandy beaches, camping is allowed with the permission from the Fisheries Department in Alor Setar, the capital of Kedah state. Basic facilities like picnic tables, barbecue pits, washrooms and gazebos on selected part of the island.

How to get there
Visitors can get to Pulau Payar from Langkawi Island, Kuala Kedah and Penang. Enquiry and booking should made a day earlier with tour operators at your respective departure point. Meals will mostly be provided but you have to bring your own gears and snorkeling equipments.
